Anyway, I noticed that the last few of my post are all about selling Beatles memorabilia and Beatles stuff… And now, here’s what I’ve read… Sgt. Pepper’s Drum Skin Sells for more that A million dollar on a july 10 Auction!

Here’s the details:

The drum skin which appears on the famous front cover of The Beatles’ 1967 album ‘Sgt Pepper’ has sold for a massive £541,250 (over $1million) at an auction in London.

The skin was sold at Christie’s Auction House in the capital yesterday (July 10) for almost four times the estimated price. It was part of a large rock memorabilia auction which also featured Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Ella Fitzgerald lots.

The second highest bid of the day was for the lyrics to ‘Give Piece A Chance’ handwritten by John Lennon which sold for £421,250. They were originally given to writer Gail Renard when Lennon and Yoko Ono were staging their ‘bed-in’ in Montreal in 1969.

Also up for sale was a series of never-seen-before Beatles photographs and a pair of sunglasses worn by John Lennon on the sleeve to ‘Mind Games’ which went for £39,000.

Elsewhere, a Gibson guitar once owned by Pete Townshend shifted for £32,450, a rare live recording of Jimi Hendrix in 1968 went for £48,050.

I wonder if any of the event can be viewed on Utube… Beatles lyrics or should I say John Lennon’s “Give peace a chance” lyrics also sold out for $833,654 something.. wow!

Ex-Beatles’ bike sells for £36,000

A HONDA bike owned by John Lennon and Ringo Starr sold yesterday for £36,000 – more than five times its estimate.

The 1970 Honda 160Z monkey bike was bought by Lennon as a fun way of getting around the many acres of his Berkshire home and was among the items inherited by Starr, the auctioneer Bonhams said.

“Beatles Auctions” category? Yep, I just created it!

It’s Paul McCartney-signed guitar amplifier!

A guitar amplifier signed by Sir Paul McCartney sold for £3,900 in a charity auction on eBay.

Proceeds from the sale of the hand-wired Vox AC15H1TV amp went to the campaign group No More Landmines.

McCartney has led a host of celebrities in signing a petition calling for a ban on cluster munitions.

Although I’m not sure if this is true… If there’s some super Beatles historian who stumble upon this blog, please comment..

Here’s what I read from “The Beatles Anecdotes”

“Thank You Girl” entered the Top 40 on 25 April 1964 and stayed for three weeks, reaching # 35.

“I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party” on stayed in the Top 40 for one week in late March 1965. The song reached # 39.

Believe it or not, “Baby You’re A Rich Man” only reached the # 34 position! It entered the Top 40 on 12 August 1967 and only stayed for two weeks.

It is a compelling testimony to The Beatles that only three of their numerous songs from 1964-1970 were in the bottom quarter of the coveted Top 40.

“I once had a girl, or should I say she once had me”… where the hidden message in that?

John was quoted:

“I was trying to write about an affair without letting my wife know I was having one. I was sort of writing from my experiences - girl’s flats, things like that. I was very careful and paranoid because I didn’t want my wife, Cyn, to know that there really was something going on outside of the household. I’d always had some kind of affairs going on, so I was trying to be sophisticated in writing about an affair, but in such a smoke-screen way that you couldn’t tell. But I can’t remember any specific woman it had to do with.” - John Lennon

George Harrison’s son, Dhani Harrison is set to tour the United States with his new band thenewo2!

This is great news for the ever loyal fans of the great, late Mr. George Harrison! I only hope they wont compare the root from the leaves (is that right?) or the father to the son (better).

When I saw Julian Lennon couple of years ago, I said to myself, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The face and feature of Julian are super likeness with John Lennon!

But then tonight, I saw a photo of Dhani Harrison (up) for the very first time and I said to myself.. “Holy shhhh… cow!” It’s like seeing George Harrison during the Harmburg days!

Here’s another Beatle memorabilia out for auction after the stationery autograph auctioned last time.

Almost 4 decades ago, on 1969, during the world famous “Bed-in for peace” by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, a teenage fan who slipped through the tight security helped with the setup and preparation for that event. She was Gail Renard.

Gail befriended the Lennons. John gave Gail Ranard teh scribbled lyrics of the song “Give Peace a Chance” and told her to hold on for it for a while “It will be worth something someday,” predicted Lennon, which is true now.

That day was the midst of his famous eight-day “bed-in” with his new wife, Yoko Ono, in Montreal.

The lyrics will go on public view July 5 in London and will be auctioned July 10. They will also be available for viewing by appointment in New York on May 7-10.

The words to the enduring peace anthem are expected to fetch more than $400,000.

Here’s the story behind that almost $60,000 piece of paper! Apparently, John, Paul, George and Ringo were scheduled to play the Balboa Stadium in San Diego. At that very moment, the lads heard that Elvis was filming Paradise, Hawaiian Style in Hollywood.

On the night of August 27, 1965, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr arrived at Elvis’s house in Bel Air.

It was also rumored that Elvis himself greeted them at the door and kiddingly said, “If you guys are going to stare at me all night,” joked Elvis, “I’m going to bed!”

Jerry Schilling, a member of Elvis’s “Memphis Mafia,” probably a big fan himself.. (come on! I’m sure those time, everyone who has a radio is a fan of the Beatles) Well anyway, he got the autographs of all four Beatles on a 5″ x 8″ piece of Elvis Presley’s personal stationery, and dated the event “8/27/65.”

And that’s the story behind the $60,000 piece of paper.

Paperback Writer was mostly written by Paul McCartney and with the accompanying help from John on harmony and musical side.. also suggesting and/or approving some lines of lyrics.

What was the idea behind the song? How did it came to be?

Well, there’s one story that goes..

DJ Jimmy Savile, who says he was reading a book backstage when John Lennon asked McCartney what they should write about next. McCartney’s reply was: ‘Why not write about that book Jimmy is reading?’

Some also believes that McCartney once remarked that he liked the way the phrase “paperback writer” sounded, and wanted to build a song around it.

The idea for Paperback Writer according to Paul McCartney came to hime while driving out to John Lennon’s house in Weybridge in the stockbroker belt for a songwriting session.

By the time McCartney arrived in Weybridge he had the song’s structure in his head. McCartney: “I told John I had this idea of trying to write off to a publishers to become a paperback writer, and I said I think it should be written like a letter. I took a bit of paper out and I said it should be something like ‘Dear Sir or Madam, as the case may be…’

Galing talaga. Such a genius those lads are…
